True Chesapeake Oyster Co

Dinner at True Chesapeake Oyster Co was a delicious experience in Maryland seafood cuisine, in Baltimore, Maryland

After touring Washington DC and enjoying the cherry blossoms and going to Delaware and enjoying beer at Dogfish Head Brewery and Tasting Room, there was only one thing left to do: dinner with Amy in Baltimore.

The drive from Delaware was relatively easy. But, finding the location of True Chesapeake Oyster Co at Whitehall Market was actually kind of challenging. However, once I found it – I was easily guided inside and found Amy at our table.

To start, I ordered a  CLASSIC MANHATTAN (2 parts rye, 1 part sweet vermouth, bitters, cherry) to go with our oyster platter of the evening. When our selection arrived, I was pleased.

The OYSTER PLATTER OF SKINNY DIPPER (Approximately 3-4 inches) and HUCKLEBERRY (Approximately 2 inches) was delicious.

Next up was a dish Amy raved about – the BLUE CRAB & BONE MARROW DIP (pickled shallots garden herbs, grilled bread). This was absolutely spectacular. I usually love the richness of bone marrow.

Like the bone marrow dish at  The Wife and Somm, I usually tend to find the dish delicious and will order it, if my dining partner is open to the suggestion.

The BUTTER POACHED ROCKFISH (Brussels sprout leaves, chive & lemon gremolata, carrot & ginger broth) was delicious. The freshness of the fish and accoutrements distinctively reminded me that I was on the East Coast.

For dessert, we shared the CRANBERRY & GRAND MARNIER SORBET and the SMITH ISLAND CAKE (Maryland’s traditional ten layer cake, orange crème anglaise)

As I made my way back to my hotel for the weekend,  the Thompson Washington DC, I truly reflected on my appreciation of my friendship with Amy over the years – and dinner at True Chesapeake Oyster Co.

It’s so lovely to cultivate good, intelligent friendships from joining a sorority in college that last well into adulthood.
