Pilot DTLA

The now closed Pilot restaurant was a glorious poolside California cool dining experience in Downtown Los Angeles.

Wanting to take me out for my birthday, Johann asked if I had a particular place that I wanted us to try together. I immediately thought of Pilot in Downtown Los Angeles. It had everything – poolside dining, an expansive view of downtown and – best of all – great food.

We started with the FRIED CALAMARI (dill remoulade, spicy pomodoro, fresh lemon) and the RED PEPPER HUMMUS (pickled pepper relish, crispy garlic, basil, aleppo pepper, toasted pita).

Next up was the absolutely phenomenal SUMMER TRUFFLE MAFALDE (shaved truffles, aged parmesan cheese, black pepper).

The SHAWARMA GLAZED LAMB (cucumber yogurt, shawarma spice, wood-fired na’an bread) and the
STEAK FRITES (80z hangar steak, beef jus, za’atar fries) were just – culinarily brilliant.

And finishing off diner was the ICE CREAM TRIO.

Magnificent.

I know that Pilot has now turned into Cabra Restaurant. And I look forward to visiting it again.

But, damn, it was delicious when it was Pilot.
