Hayes Mansion San Jose, Curio Collection by Hilton provided a comfortable place to stay during a stop in San Jose, California
Not wanting to drive back to San Francisco from my meeting Big Sur in one shot, I decided to book a stay at Hayes Mansion San Jose, Curio Collection by Hilton in San Jose.
History
The Hayes Mansion in San Jose, now part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, holds a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Originally built in 1905 by Mary Folsom Hayes, the widow of wealthy businessman J. Hayes, the mansion was designed in the Mediterranean Revival style, showcasing grand architecture and elegant detailing. The estate served as a private residence for the Hayes family, known for their prominence in local business and social circles.
During its early years, the Hayes Mansion was a hub of lavish social gatherings, hosting notable figures and events that contributed to San Jose’s cultural heritage. The mansion’s opulent interiors, featuring intricate woodwork, stained glass windows, and ornate furnishings, reflected the wealth and sophistication of the era.
In the 1990s, the City of San Jose acquired the Hayes Mansion, recognizing its historical significance and architectural beauty. Extensive restoration efforts were undertaken to preserve the mansion’s original charm while updating it to meet modern standards of luxury and comfort.
Room and Stay
It was – simply put – a place to stay.
I didn’t go in looking to be wowed. It was just a typical, nicely renovated Hilton property.
Overall
Don’t get me wrong – the grounds are beautiful – including gardens, fountains, and walking paths. I can see why people would get married there. But, was my stay out of the ordinary in any way? Nope. Not at all.
It was – again – a place to stay.
Pretty to look at, close to an In-n-Out and the highway – and I was on the road the next day.
