Dinner at SingleThread Restaurant was an experience in decadent perfection - from service to presentation to taste - in Healdsburg, California
To say that Johann and I planned a whole friendship trip around booking a reservation at SingleTread – a 3 Michelin-Star Restaurant – would be correct.
A year before, Sonni had posted photos and told me about her incredible dinner at SingleThread. It was in that moment that I vowed to – someday soon – visit SingleThread and feel like I belonged at the table.
When Johann and I arrived, we were greeted at the doors by the words:
“You must be Kimberly. Welcome to SingleThread”
It was an absolutely incredible feeling. I felt seen, acknowledged and that I belonged.
Stepping into SingleThread feels like entering a tranquil oasis, where each dish tells a story of the surrounding land, meticulously cultivated by the husband-and-wife team Kyle and Katina Connaughton and their dedicated team.
The Connaughtons’ journey into the culinary world began with Kyle’s extensive experience working in top-tier restaurants around the world, including The Fat Duck in England and The French Laundry. Katina, on the other hand, brought her expertise in hospitality and design to the table.
The result? Perfection.
One of the standout features of SingleThread is its integration of a farm-to-table concept. The restaurant is accompanied by a five-acre farm located nearby in Sonoma County, where a diverse array of fruits, vegetables, and herbs are cultivated.
Johann and I felt this attention to detail, as we relaxed on the rooftop before our reservation. We enjoyed a selection of SUMMER STONE FRUITS including slices of SANTA ROSA PLUM (Single Thread Farms, Healdsburg CA), ELBERTA PEACH (Sonoma County, CA) and BEAUTY ASIAN PLUOT (Sonoma County, CA).
The restaurant’s tasting menu format offers a carefully curated selection of dishes that showcase the bounty of the seasons and the culinary artistry of the Connaughtons and their team.
As laughter bubbled and glasses clinked, each dish presented was a masterpiece in its own right, a symphony of flavors meticulously crafted by a renowned chef.
I was in a constant state of awe. Every morsel transported me on a culinary journey.
Originally conceived as a celebration of the farm-to-table ethos, SingleThread draws inspiration from the rhythms of nature and the seasons, sourcing ingredients directly from its own five-acre farm and other local producers.
With each course expertly paired with a fine wine, conversation flowed effortlessly, weaving stories and creating memories against the backdrop of this unforgettable evening.
SingleThread’s commitment to sustainability and terroir shines through in every aspect of the dining experience, from the delicate flavors of freshly harvested vegetables to the nuanced pairings of artisanal wines from nearby vineyards.
Dining at SingleThread felt like existing in a luxurious sanctuary, where every detail whispered of refinement and excellence.
Each course was a presentation of fine art.
Another detail that I loved was that the serving dishes and utensils worked in conjunction with the cuisine served.
The only thing I didn’t expect was how long the dining service was. We arrived at 6:15pm and didn’t finish our last dish until midnight.
At the end, I was so tired from eating that I started giving my dishes to Johann to finish.
Until dessert, of course.
