High West Refectory & Tasting Room

High West Refectory & Tasting Room was an incredible stop for delicious cuisine and top notch whiskey in Wanship, Utah.

When I told Sonni that I was in Salt Lake City and Park City for the weekend, she immediately urged me to visit the High West Refectory & Tasting Room. Honestly, with the history Utah has, I had no idea that they would even allow a distillery in the state.

Wow, what a lesson I learned.

High West is a MUST visit. Not a “maybe, if I’m in the area”.

Go.

We started with the BBQ DUSTED BBQ CHIPS. Again, I don’t know what it is about Salt Lake City and chips and dip. But, like at White Horse Spirits & Kitchen, the dip was delicious.

For a lunch cocktail, I ordered the  OLD FASHIONED (Bourbon, bitters).

But the real star of the show? A custom WHISKEY FLIGHT of:

I don’t care how cool of a person you are. Drinking a taste of a rather high dollar amount per bottle of whiskey gives you a guttural, primal feeling. I was almost angry that I couldn’t buy the bottle because it was sold out. I literally asked if I could buy that bottle – and was sad that I couldn’t.

I also enjoyed the CAST IRON ROCKY MOUNTAIN TROUT (Open faced sandwich, Whiskey Malt coleslaw with shaved red onion on Rye Bread). This, like everything else, was outstanding.

Sitting next to window gave me an incredible view of the snowy landscape. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful.

Once lunch was done, I relished touring the store. I ended up buying bottles of the High West Old Fashioned and High West Manhattan cocktails.

Walking the grounds of High West Distillery, I was so pleased with how beautifully design the space was.

Truly, dining at High West Refectory and enjoying the grounds of the distillery was one of the highlights of my weekend in the Utah Mountains.
