Dinner at Welina Terrance at 1Hotel Hanalei Bay offered a scrumptious evening of outstanding sushi and Asian inspired light bites

This was – by far – one of the most incredible dining experiences I’ve had.

I started with a cocktail, the KAUAI TAI (Kuleana Huihui Rum, Brugal 1888 Rum, Giffard Caribbean Pineapple Yuzu, Avocado Pit Orgeat, Liliko’i and Hibiscus Foam). It was perhaps the most delicious mai tai I’d had on the island.

I also asked for a HOBBS TEAS (Green Tea). The cup of tea was much needed warmth after a rather cool day.

Next to arrive to the table was EDAMAME (Hojicha Salt, Garlic Black Pepper) and SUNOMONO SALAD (Tosaka Seaweed, Wakame, Cucumber, Tosazu). Both were fantastic.

The sushi rolls, WHITE TIGER (Tuna, Avocado, Jalapeño, Cucumber, Tobiko, Citrus Chili Aioli) and HAMAKI ROLL (Yellowtail, Cucumber, Cilantro, Negi Relish, Spicy Aioli) were top notch. I could eat them every night and not get bored.

But the sushi – wow the sushi….. the sushi was incredible….

HAMACHI NIGIRI (Yellowtail)
KAMPACHI NIGIRI (Amberjack)
WAGYU NIGIRI (Japanese A5 Ribeye, Wasabi Relish)
YAKINIKU NIGIRI (72hr A5 Short Rib, Wasabi Relish)
MAGURO AKAMI NIGIRI (Lean Bluefin Tuna)
MADAI NIGIRI (Japanese Sea Bream) – one of the best
SAKE NIGIRI (Salmon)
SAKETORO NIGIRI (Salmon Belly)

The selection of sushi served was – simply put – out-fucking-standinly delicious.

It was simply a dinner filled with delicious oral magic.


It was the perfect way to end a weekend of birthday celebrations in Hawaii.
