Terry Black's Barbecue is a local barbecue cuisine staple - with good food without excessively long lines - in Austin, Texas
During a stay in Austin, I wanted barbecue, plain and simple. I didn’t feel drawn to the allure of standing in a long line for a chance to get something before it ran out – a la Franklin Barbecue. I just wanted a place that I could go to within Austin city limits and eat without much fuss.
Plus, both sides of my family are from Texas. Barbecue is regional cuisine that you grow up with and learn how to do yourself.
So I asked the check in staff at my hotel, Tommie Austin, for suggestions. When one person suggested Terry Black’s Barbecue on Barton Springs Road, I immediately said “Sure, why not”?
When I arrived, it was exactly what I’d wanted: easy to access barbecue that prioritized food over gimmicks and trends. Ordering was easy. Literally, there were signs stating the necessary order of events.
I quickly found a seat with my SLICED BEEF SANDWICH COMBO (with chips and a regular drink), a side of PINTO BEANS and PEACH COBBLER.
It truly hit the spot.
