Sunrose California Eatery

Breakfast at Sunrose California Eatery is an inviting, coastal cool, vibe - with a delicious menu to match - in Agoura Hills, California

There’s something satisfying to starting the last day of 2024 with breakfast and a conversation with a dear friend. Alice, from elementary school.

To bring things full circle – where she was the first person to witness my photography online and say that I should be involved with her company’s vendor event…. To now, years later, when I’m producing art markets with Bespoke Art Society – was an absolute joy.

Settling in, it was simply the best way to start the day. I browsed the menu and actually had to search this website to remind myself what I’d had previously had.

For me, cozy brunches need to start off with a nice hot cup of COFFEE. With that taken care of, it was easy to fall into the rhythm of conversation.

Alice has always been a quiet but powerful voice of support in my life. As we drank our morning beverages and caught up in each others lives, it was wonderful to hear her compliments about the hard work I’ve done on this site. And, hear that she even looked at someone of my posts for researching her trips.

When the DUTCH BABY PANCAKE (seasonal fruit, powdered sugar, whipped Chantilly cream, maple syrup, served in a hot skillet) with BACON arrived, I knew I’d made the right choice.

My conversation with Alice was incredibly meaningful and deeply powerful because as we spoke, I realized one harsh fundamental truth about my life:

I will never have enough money.

Ever.

Why? Because we have been trained as humans existing in this society that consumerism and chasing the golden carrot in front of us will someday lead to personal fulfillment. That striving for money, crafting yourself as a marketable commodity and pushing your brand will lead to – more and more money.

But not just that –  once you get one financial milestone, there’s always something else that you then train yourself to strive for. So, I simply cannot possibly have enough money – because even thinking about that as a concept is bullshit. I also cannot base my self worth, creativity or writing around how many likes and reshares I receive. Because, it will never be enough.

So – no, I will never have enough money. But what I do have is a deep and profound sense of contentment. From a life well lived and the memories I made with people and experiences I loved. I can control my own inner world and I can be enough for myself.

And that feeling is what I’m taking into 2025.

Previously …….

One casual morning, I woke up with a craving for French toast. I didn’t want to Uber Eats breakfast from Nook, or go to Leo and Lilly – I wanted something else.

Then, I remembered how much I’d enjoyed a previous trip to Sunrose California Eatery. I checked the online menu and they DID have French toast. So, soon we were on the 101,  on our way to Agoura Hills.

We walked in without a reservation and – happily – got seating indoors. I ordered the BRIOCHE FRENCH TOAST (seasonal berries, whipped chantilly cream, maple syrup) with BACON and a DRIP COFFEE.

It was delicious and exactly the vibe I was looking for on a cozy morning. My partner got the B•A•B (bacon or sausage patty, two eggs your way, crispy potatoes, toasted country bread).

Previously, I enjoyed the CRISPY PORK BELLY SANDWICH (romesco, manchego cheese, garlic dioli, arugula, toasted sweet potato bun, French fries), SEASONAL FRUIT BOWL  and LAVENDER LATTE.

Each trip has offered a delicious way to satisfy my hunger. The food is delicious; the vibe is warm and inviting; the staff is friendly and frankly, it’s always been a pleasure to eat at Sunrose California Eatery.
