Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is an expansive wide open wilderness on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado

While at the Denver Botanic Gardens, I pondered on what to do next. I wanted to go to Garden of the Gods. But, didn’t like the rainstorm that seemed to be blowing in. So, when Jessica’s mother told me about her visit to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge the day before, I was curious.

Living in Denver for a bit, I’d never even heard of the Wildlife Refuge. Let alone expect to see bison roaming free with the Denver skyline in the background.

With little hesitation, I made the short drive from the gardens to the refuge.

While driving around the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, I got caught in a rainstorm near one of the fishing lakes.

It was extremely healing and comforting. Usually, when I get caught in a rain storm, I try and avoid it. Not this time. I delighted in taking photos and letting the rain splash on me. It didn’t even matter if the images came out well. Who cared? I was just, simply happy.

Plus, I had the pleasure of seeing bunnies, deer and a heard of bison!

It truly was the most unexpected gift of the day.
