After so many days of vegetarian food with a little meat thrown in, I should have known better than to go hard on steak cooked in front of me with sizzling butter at Nusr-Et Steakhouse - Maçka Palas
Nusr-Et Steakhouse, often referred to as Nusr-Et, is a chain of upscale steakhouses known for its distinctive style and the charismatic personality of its founder, Nusret Gökçe, also known as “Salt Bae.” Curious, I was delighted that the restaurant was in the hotel. Even though Alice said that her experience was mid and she hadn’t been super impressed with the quality of food.
But, again, I was curious.
Now, I will say this – the Nusr-Et Steakhouse location at the Macka Palas is beautiful.
After browsing the menu, I ordered the FROM ISTANBUL WITH LOVE (House Brewed Pink Gin, Aperol, Lemon Juice, Sugar Syrup) and it came with a topping image of Salt Bae’s famous salting meat pose.
Nusret Gökçe became an internet sensation in January 2017 when a video of him performing a theatrical and flamboyant method of sprinkling salt on a steak went viral. This video earned him the nickname “Salt Bae” and catapulted him to international fame. Gökçe, in his salting glory, was the image that was on my drink.
It was…. a moment. Previous to that moment, I’d never drank a cocktail with someone’s face on it. Clearly, there are always first times for various things…..
Next, I ordered the KARIDES TEMPURA (shrimp tempura sushi) along with the FIRIN KARNABAHAR (grilled broccoli).
And then, it was time for The Meat.
I ordered the NUSR-ET 2 meat presentation, paired with a classic MANHATTAN cocktail.
My eyes were larger than my stomach and it was simply too much food for me. I will say that the high-quality meat and distinctive presentation was a plus. It was a luxuriously lavish atmosphere. But, I ordered too much and rapidly felt tired from my day of travel.
So, I ate what I could and packed the rest to go.
