Baar Baar is a delicious, innovative and beautiful Indian restaurant located in Downtown Los Angeles, California
Looking for a new place to try for our monthly dining adventures, Erik and I started going over possibilities. I sent him a list of possible selections. Curious, because we haven’t had Indian cuisine together, he picked Baar Baar.
The first thing I noticed when I entered Baar Baar was how beautiful it was. The rich gold, green and brown tones were welcomed aesthetics.
Browsing the drink menu, I decided to try something new and ordered the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (Raw Turmeric-Infused Gin, Passion Fruit, Green Chartreuse and Tonic). This tasted dangerously like fruit juice.
When the SWEET POTATO CHAT (Tamarind Chutney, Sweet And Sour Yoghurt, Kale) came out, we were enthralled.
The PORK BELLY (Pomegranate BBQ, Stone Fruit, Spring Onion, Masala Cracklings) was phenomenal.
The KERALA FRIED CHICKEN (Chili Aioli, Baby Radish, Curry Leaf) was absolutely delicious.
The AVOCADO BHEL (Edamame & Green Chickpea Hummus, Radish, Puffed Black Rice), plated and presented magnificently.
I loved the look of a green drink with a smoked bubble I’d seen at another table. So, I ordered the LAGAAN (Gin, Honeydew Melon, Kale, Midori, and Egg White).
The BEEF SHORT RIBS (Madras Curry, Marrow Kurchan, Baby Veg) with an order of the CHEESE & JALAPENO NAAN was absolutely incredible.
For dessert, we shared the CARROT HALWA OPERA (Mascarpone Rabdi, Pistachio Cardamom Ice Cream).
Before we knew it, 3 hours of conversation over outstanding Indian food had passed.
Truly, dinner at Baar Baar in Downtown Los Angeles was the perfect setting for a beautiful evening with a dear friend.
