My stay at 1 Hotel Central Park - with its lush modern eco centric design - redefined my expectations of luxury hotels in New York

Nestled in the heart of the bustling New York City, 1 Hotel Central Park stands out as a sanctuary of luxury and tranquility, offering a captivating blend of modern comforts and traditional charm. The minute Amanda told me about her experiences during her stay at 1 Hotel Central Park, I noted that the next time I was in New York, I would stay there.

Needing a weekend to myself amid dealing with stress, grief and wanting to re-discover things that brought me joy again, I made reservations for a short stay in Manhattan.

History

1 Hotel Central Park in New York City embodies a unique blend of sustainability and luxury, rooted in a rich history. The hotel is situated in a prime location near Central Park, a site that has long been revered for its natural beauty and cultural significance. The building that houses 1 Hotel Central Park has a history dating back to the early 20th century when it was originally constructed as The Latham Hotel in 1907.

In 2010, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation and redesign.This transformation marked the beginning of its new chapter as 1 Hotel Central Park, a pioneering eco-luxury hotel concept. The hotel’s design ethos is centered around sustainability, incorporating reclaimed materials, energy-efficient systems, and eco-friendly practices throughout its operations.

Opened in 2015, 1 Hotel Central Park quickly became a symbol of sustainable hospitality, offering guests a harmonious blend of nature-inspired design and modern amenities. The hotel’s commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond its physical space, with initiatives such as reusable water bottles, organic bedding, and partnerships with local farmers and artisans to promote sustainability and support the community.

Location

The good thing is that my overnight flight in to New York was smooth. The bad thing is that I arrived at 1 Hotel Central Park MUCH earlier than I expected.

Which means I had to wait four hours to check in. Exhausted, I used this time to eat, relax and walk around the hotel. I had a burger and drink at the hotel restaurant, Jams, and waited.

Little did I know that my wait would be well worth it.

Room + Stay

1 Hotel Central Park is a beacon of eco-conscious luxury in New York City. When I walked into my room, I was stunned into silence with the design. It was everything I wanted – and more.

I’m so happy that I chose a high floor room, overlooking Central Park. The partial view ensured that I actually had something to look at – beyond inside another window.

 

I remember I sat on the alcove of the bay window, just staring at Central Park. I contemplated my life in those moments. I thought about my feelings of intense grief, sat with losing a parent and feelings of self identity. I thought about the experiences, relationships, and choices of my life.

It’s rare that I really have space in a hotel room to do exactly what I planned the trip to do: have a beautiful space to serve as a jumping off point to go deeper into myself. There was something about the view that allowed me to simply – be.

There I was – in New York. I’d made dining reservations for Keens Steakhouse and Per Se. I was in such a state of gratitude for my present life. I felt the possibilities that were ahead of me were guiding us towards a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment. I didn’t know then, but I was going to embark on a process of traveling the world. From Dubai and the Maldives to Istanbul to Brussels and The Netherlands, I would learn more about the world and about my own path in it, through art and self discovery.

Overall

Overall, my stay at 1 Hotel Central Park was visually delicious. Most importantly, it gave me the space to creatively feel – even a little bit – again.

From its stunning architecture, lush garden like atmosphere and stunningly beautiful rooms, 1 Hotel Central Park promises an unforgettable of beauty and hospitality in Central Park area of Manhattan.
