Enjoying well crafted cocktails at Vox Cigar Bar at Grand Hyatt Berlin was the perfect way to end my first night in Berlin, Germany
After dinner at Paulaner Wirshaus, I walked back to the Grand Hyatt Berlin. I didn’t want to go to bed just yet. But, I didn’t want to go out to one of the clubs. So, I ventured to the hotel bar.
Sitting at the counter, I wanted to try some local distilled spirits. So, I was introduced to Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin. Usually, I don’t like gin. But, THIS was impressive.
So, I had a GIN AND TONIC made from it. I was shocked – it was surprisingly delicious. Next up was a PEACH NECK (Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch, Schweppes Peach Lemonade, Apple, Rhubarb)
I finished with a BALEARIC SUMMER (Canonita, Reposado, Lemon juice, Basil Syrup, Sugarsyrup, orange).
The drinks were outstanding. But, what was even better were the conversations I got into with the bartenders. I learned about how frankly Germany deals with it’s colonizer past as well as the obvious atrocities. I learned about the German education system. As well as the Danish. One of the bartenders studied in France with a program that was an accelerated internship program. However, the credits didn’t transfer in Germany.
It was so much fun to have such incredible conversations. I learned about the Berlin club scene and about the firm sense of individualism that I saw within everyone.
There is a distinct spirit of process within the city. Even thought the regional food of the city might be a bit bland. It being sausage and sauces and all. But, what truly matters are the conversations that I learned from and will remember.
