Rose Tavern at The Lake House on Canandaigua offers a refined dining experience with a menu focused on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients
After a few hours of driving from The Maker in Hudson and exploring the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park, I arrived at The Lake House on Canandaigua absolutely starving. After checking in, I was immediately thankful that I’d made a late reservation for Rose Tavern. After a few minutes of settling in, I made my way downstairs and into the restaurant.

Now, the first thing I noticed was the brilliant richness of the blue tones. The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. The decor was perfect and seasonal. As I was led to my table, I appreciated the open kitchen and inviting vibe of the space.
The NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER (bacon, potatoes, clams) was some of the best I’ve had.
With a pour of the current tap of Clarksburg Seasonal Cider out of Lancaster, New York, I was in a state of bliss.
For my 7OZ BEEF TENDERLOIN, I selected the trio of HORSERADISH CREME FRAÎCHE, CHIMICHURRI, and the TAVERN STEAK SAUCE. I balanced this out with the TRUFFLE PARMESAN CRISPY POTATOES. Now, the beauty of this side is that I was offered a choice of how I wanted the potatoes. Did I want them cubed? As fries?
As fries, obviously.
There’s something blissful about ending a long day with a delicious meal, and this dinner was exactly what my mind and body needed. I felt like I’d replenished every calorie I burned while walking and photographing the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park.
It was the perfect way to wind down before retreating to my room for a deep, peaceful sleep.
