Locals Only

Locals Only in Rochester, New York, is known for its creative drinks and locally sourced, seasonally inspired dishes.

After waking up at The Lake House On Canandaigua, I took some time to take photos of the property and relax by the lake. I debated on going back to Rose Tavern. But, opted to search for something in Rochester to feel the vibe of the city. After a short look around, I landed on Locals Only.

Parking at the restaurant was easy. There is a neighboring parking lot, with complimentary parking for dining guests.

Most importantly, there was a tribute marking Fredrick Douglas’s family home and the end of the Underground Railroad. It was accidentally one of the most moving moments of my whole week.

After paying tribute and giving thanks to the legacy of ancestors who fought for what was right, I walked into the restaurant.

Immediately, I was pleased with the wide, open, radiant space of the design. I was immediately greeted and offered a choice of places to sit. I chose upstairs, for a beautiful view out of the window and of the space.

As a nod to the season, I ordered the PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE (Pumpkin, vanilla, espresso, and milk, topped with cinnamon). This was warming and delicious. My server told me that they made the pumpkin syrup in house, which added to the rich flavor.

When my order of the MORNING GLORY (Braised brisket with a savory au jus, served with 3 eggs and breakfast potatoes) arrived, I was impressed. You definitely get what you pay for. I switched out the eggs for seasonal vegetables, and was better for it.

The braised brisket was tender and effortless to shred, pairing perfectly with the flavorful breakfast potatoes. Though the extra au jus sauce cost $2.50, it was worth it, as it brought out the rich, savory essence of the dish.

The breakfast potatoes were bursting with flavor, and the seasonal vegetables added a fresh, vibrant touch.

Breakfast at Locals Only was exactly what I needed before I got on the hours long train to Toronto,  to keep hunger at bay.
