Monkish Brewing

Monkish Brewing in Torrance, CA, offers a renowned selection of hazy IPAs and Belgian-style ales, making it a must-visit destination for craft beer lovers in Southern California.

I love it when someone whose taste I trust recommends a brewery that I’ve never heard of. After attending a California Association of Realtors event in Long Beach, I desperately did not want to waste time sitting on the 405 in traffic. Luckily, I remembered Ben had recommended Monkish Brewing in Torrance, a few weeks prior. Eager to try someplace new and grateful it was on the way, I made my way off the freeway and into the taproom.

As I stepped into the tap room, I noticed that they have a completely different approach that took me off guard. Instead of focusing on notes, they focused on hops. I mean, a hop obsessed brewery in the Los Angeles area Yes! Please! I immediately ordered a Feminist 5 oz pour, along with the Death by Anchovy.

I found the Feminist to be decidedly sour – and right up my alley in taste preference. Death by Anchovy was just damn good.

After sitting outside to decompress from the rather heavy day at the conference, it was great to finally feel like myself again. Not performing my personality for others. Not rushing to go to one speaker to another. Just a solid beer and vibing to the music.

For my second round, I ordered the Hoplager and the Foggier Window, along with Garlic Noods from MANEATINGPLANT. 

As I sat inside, I greatly appreciated Ben’s recommendation. It’s not often that I meet people who show me something new. In this case, I was greatly appreciative of the Belgian-style beers and hazy IPAs. It was like my experience at St. Elmo Brewing Company  in Austin, Texas. But hoppier.

 

With outstanding selection and a good vibe, Monkish Brewing is a delicious, hop focused brewery that is now one of my favorites in Southern California. 

Plus, I love a good bathroom with old labels.
