Destroyer is a modern lunch destination, offering inventive, seasonal Scandinavian inspired dishes - in Culver City, California
Tucked away in the creative heart of Culver City’s Hayden Tract, Destroyer is the kind of place you might pass by without realizing it’s one of Los Angeles’ most innovative spots for Scandinavian cuisine. Now, I’ve known about Destroyer since it opened in 2017. And, I had friends visit and tell me about it. It had been on my list of places to try for years. So, when Reyna and I made plans to meet for lunch, it was easy to suggest Destroyer.
Immediately upon arriving, I was visually pleased. The minimalist design served me my favorite aspects of Copenhagen and Sweden. And the dishes looked complex and beautifully composed.
I took my ROSEWATER LATTE (espresso, cardamom, rosewater, vanilla, raw cane sugar) to the table. It was love at first sip.
Plus, I loved the dog that came to visit me, while Reyna and I conversed!
When the CHICKEN SCHNITZEL (crumbed free-range chicken breast, sauce of dried chilies & seeds, shredded kale, heirloom cucumber, basil, labne vinaigrette) arrived, it was almost too beautiful to eat.
The STRAWBERRY JAM BAR was absolutely incredible.
Reyna and I split it, as we basked in the warm California sun of early Autumn.
Located in an area filled with design studios, tech startups, and production companies, the parking is slightly trash. Renya had a challenging time. On the other hand, I found parking within five minutes. So, it’s a crap shoot. However, it is VERY much worth it.
Whether you’re a local looking for a new lunch spot or a visitor wanting to experience LA’s inventive food scene, Destroyer is well worth a visit.
