Over the course of my three breakfasts at the Kimpton Charlotte Square, I experienced the very best of a light, satisfying start to the day in Scotland.
Breakfast is served until around 9:30 or 10 a.m. in the same inviting space that transforms into BABA come evening. The spread offers the finest of continental selections—an abundant buffet that caters to every kind of appetite. It wasn’t quite the leisurely affair of breakfast at Brasserie du Louvre in Paris, but it didn’t need to be. This meal carried the distinct spirit of Scotland.

Each morning, I enjoyed my cappuccino and grilled tomatoes, simple comforts that paired beautifully with locally smoked Scottish salmon and mackerel on toast, finished with a touch of fresh fruit.
It was unfussy, flavorful, and deeply satisfying – a traveler’s kind of food heaven.

They did offer haggis, of course, but I chose to pass. I’ll gladly toast with whisky anywhere in Scotland, but haggis has just never been my thing.
