After a night at the cozy Avila La Fonda Hotel, in Avila Beach, I wasn’t ready to head back to Los Angeles just yet. With COVID-19 still keeping life at home gloomy and isolating, the thought of returning too soon felt heavy.
After a bit of back-and-forth, we decided to keep driving north along the coast, all the way to Big Sur. A few hours later, we found ourselves at Big Sur Smokehouse, breathing in the irresistible aroma of slow-cooked barbecue while we waited for our meals.

A few hours later, we were seated at Big Sur Smokehouse, waiting for our deliciously smelling meals.
I ordered the TRI-TIP SANDWICH (Hawaiian bun, coleslaw, house pickles, choice of sauce) with SMOKED CORN RELISH as a side. With a solid IPA beer to go with it.

The first bite was everything I hoped for. Sitting there, savoring incredible barbecue and beer in one of my favorite places on Earth, felt like pure magic.
It was, without a doubt, the happiest birthday I could have imagined – during one of the most challenging years of my life – in Big Sur, California
