There are places that exceed every expectation, and then there is French Polynesia – a place so beautiful it takes a few days to fully believe it is real. Scattered across the South Pacific, Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora each carry their own distinct character while sharing the kind of natural beauty that reframes what the word paradise actually means.
Tahiti is the entry point and far more than a layover. Papeete hums with local life – colorful markets and French influenced cuisine.

Then there was Moorea. Yes, it’s just a short ferry ride from Tahiti. But it felt like another world. With its jagged peaks and coral-filled lagoons, it’s a paradise for kayaking, snorkeling and relaxing. I absolutely loved getting lost in the peaceful beauty of the lagoon at Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort.

Bora Bora is where the photographs stop doing justice to the reality. Mount Otemanu rising above the lagoon, overwater bungalows suspended above water so clear I could see the fish beneath from my deck, and a resort culture that has mastered the art of extraordinary elegance. A 4×4 safari around the island’s interior added history and perspective to what might otherwise feel like pure indulgence.

French Polynesia isn’t a budget escape, by any means. But, it’s a place where time slows down and the jaw dropping beauty of the Earth surrounds you at every turn.
This guide covers where to eat, where to stay, and the experiences that made French Polynesia my favorite destination in the world – so far.
