With some time to fill before my bungalow at the Westin Bora Bora was ready, I headed to Varavara for lunch.

The view – it was all about the view. Absolutely stunning.
I ordered the TUNA SASHIMI (shredded cabbage, steamed rice, soy mayonnaise), which was …… fine.
The PRAWN ROLL (brioche bun, guacamole, citrus, green onions, mint) with FRIES, on the other hand, left me underwhelmed.
Thankfully, one of the hotel’s restaurant reservationists passed by and offered a great suggestion: take a boat to the St. Regis Bora Bora for dinner the following night.
Which, one trip to the concierge later, is exactly what I did.
The next day, I found myself back at Varavara after a wine tasting of a few Tahitian wines. I was hungry and hopeful.
This time, I struck up a great conversation with the host who seated me. He had just returned from an incredible trip to Bali and shared his go-to travel agency – Meltour – with genuine enthusiasm.
With his energy and confidence, I asked for his personal favorite dish – something hearty and delicious to get me through my upcoming 4×4 tour of Bora Bora island.
Without hesitation, he recommended the PULLED PORK SANDWICH (BBQ sauce, young salad, onion confit, cheddar, pickles)
This was the dish I should have ordered on my first visit. With FRIES, it was everything I had hoped for: flavorful and satisfying. In fact, it looked so good that another diner stopped me from another table, just to ask what I had ordered.
That – along with the view – was the perfect lunch in Bora Bora.
