Holcomb is a lovely wine bar - with an interesting and vibrant selection of wines and snack selections - in Highland Park, California
Originally excited to meet up with a friend again, I searched for places in Highland Park that would be interesting, have a great place to talk and that was pretty.
Picking the idea of a wine bar, I wanted a wine bar that was new to me, with a chill vibe. I’d previously driven by Holcomb and been intrigued. Luckily, he was down to enjoy the space, which created a conflux of curiosity meeting opportunity.
The vibe of Holcomb was awesome and the wine flowed. I picked out and ordered a selection of meats and light bites for a CHEESE & CHARCUTERIE plate.
For the wines, the bartender du noir was incredibly helpful in suggestions.
This was the first conversation in which I realized this particular friend was only engaging with me to have me listen to their pitty party of a life.
Which honestly, sucked. Every suggestion I gave on modifying a pattern or improving their life, they shat on.
You simply can’t help people who willfully want to play victim in their life.
In conversations and friendships, there needs to be a balance. I found myself feigning interest in order to act engaged.
When it was time to depart, I felt relief – and I looked forward to returning to Holcomb again.
