A getaway to the Carte Hotel provided a comfortable and relaxing stay in San Diego, California
Returning to San Diego after a few years away felt like the perfect one-night staycation in California. After browsing through a few hotel options, I ultimately decided to revisit the Carte Hotel San Diego Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton.
The moment I stepped back into the hotel, a familiar sense of ease washed over me. While the surrounding downtown area had evolved slightly, with new buildings rising over the years, the hotel itself remained as lovely as ever, offering the same welcoming ambiance that had made my previous stays so memorable.

One of the things I love most about Carte Hotel San Diego Downtown is that every time I’ve stayed, it’s been for a celebration, and this visit was no exception. Upon opening the door to my room, I was greeted by a chilled bottle of Prosecco, the perfect touch to kick off an evening of even more drinks at Mothership.
It’s worth noting that there is a ‘resort fee’ attached to your stay, but it includes a $30 credit that, along with my Gold benefit of an additional $30, waseasily redeemed at Watercolors, the hotel’s restaurant, for a cocktail and breakfast.

A tip for anyone driving in: while the hotel does offer valet parking for $60 a night, you can save by parking on the street, where it’s free after 6 p.m. and all day on Sundays. Finding a spot was surprisingly easy, which enhanced the overall pleasures of the stay.

In looking for a fun place to stay for a quick getaway to San Diego for us to ring in the New Year, I knew that I wanted to focus on getting a view of over the Bay, just in case there were fireworks. I also wanted a well designed hotel that would be a fun place to have fun.
I happened upon the Carte Hotel San Diego Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton. After a few clicks of research, I made a reservation and the date was set.

Location
The location of the hotel, in Downtown San Diego, was solid. Because of the location of the hotel, it was actually easy to get street parking. Which shocked me.
Room + Stay
The room was designed in beautiful neutral tones of blues, wood and whites. It reminded me of the best aspects of LondonHouse Chicago – but chilled out a bit and placed in San Diego. I immediately loved the design and vibe. Most importantly, I felt that I’d made the right choice in where to stay.

I absolutely loved the design of the bathroom—it was sleek and modern, with a layout that felt both functional and luxurious. The standout feature for me was the spacious walk-in shower, with its glass enclosure and rainfall showerhead. It added an element of relaxation and indulgence that made the whole bathroom feel like a mini spa retreat.

Service
I really didn’t experience a need for service or issues with the hotel. When I had an order delivered from Flamin Pho & Sushi Bar with a lovely order of sushi and pho for dinner, it was extremely easy for the driver to find the hotel and deliver the food to me.

Overall, the Carte Hotel San Diego Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton was the ideal spot to mark the end of 2020 in style. From the chic, contemporary decor to the warm, welcoming ambiance, it felt like the perfect escape from the year’s chaos.
Popping a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne in such a lovely setting made the celebration even more special, adding a touch of elegance to the moment as a toast was made to new beginnings and brighter days ahead.
