Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas

Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas provides a luxurious oceanfront retreat, combining stunning coastal views with modern design and upscale amenities for a serene escape

When I first booked my photoshoot with Jill Mercy of Slow Hand Photography, I knew that I wanted to stay in a new to me hotel outside of San Diego for the first night.  When I realized the Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas was along my way,  I booked my reservation.

Having previously experienced the refined charm of Alila Napa Valley before my dinner at the French Laundry, my expectations for Alila Marea were high. Happily, they were met.

Check In

The drive from Los Angeles on the 5 freeway was extremely pleasant. Upon arrival, I was greeted with the effortless grace that defines Alila’s hospitality. My car was whisked away by the valet, and check-in was a seamless affair.

The resort’s architecture, a masterful blend of modern design and organic textures, was absolutely gorgeous.

However, my initial room, while well designed, offered a view – of the pool. Literally, I opened the window and I was almost face to face with other people’s screaming children playing in the pool. Needless to say, screaming children was not of my desired soundtrack of the stay.

Without hesitation, I returned to the front desk, where the staff, ever attentive and accommodating, graciously moved me to a room with a partial ocean view. The new space was a sanctuary of understated elegance, with the rhythmic sound of waves as my soundtrack.

Room & Stay

Floor-to-ceiling windows in my room framed the Pacific Ocean. I felt a calm appreciation of the sophisticated aesthetics.

Walking the Property

As the evening approached, I partook in a light walk around the property before making my way to the VAGA Bar.

Dining

At VAGA Bar, I indulged in a meticulously crafted cocktail alongside sashimi.

The bar’s open-air design invites the ocean breeze to move through, creating an atmosphere that was both lively and serene. With my book in hand, I sipped my drink, savored light bites of sashimi  and let the tranquility of the place wash over me.

Finished with my afternoon rest, I continued back to my room. There, I enjoyed the sunset over the Pacific Coast, snuggled on my balcony. It was truly peaceful.

Soon after, it was time for my dinner reservation. I returned back to VAGA Restaurant, was led to my table and browsed the menu.

I settled in and ordered the WARM BREAD (Cultured Butter) to enjoy along with the 10 oz WAGYU NEW YORK STRIP (Huitlacoche Potato Mousseline-Ancient Herb Chermoula) and side of FRIES.

The night was restful, with the gentle lull of the ocean lulling me into a deep, dreamless sleep. I awoke refreshed, greeted by the soft light of morning streaming through my windows. I had a morning Nespresso on the balcony, overlooking the morning waves of the Pacific.

Breakfast back at VAGA Restaurant was a delightful experience. The menu was packed with delicious possibilities. I absolutely loved my SOUTH PONTO PANCAKES (Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, Lemon Almond Crumble) and BACON and COFFEE.

Returning back to my room, I packed and prepared for the next chapter of my day: a burlesque boudoir photo shoot in San Diego.

Overall

My stay at Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas was more than just a place to rest – it was an experience that nourished my soul.
