The Time New York – JDV by Hyatt

The Time New York – JDV by Hyatt is a modern boutique hotel near Times Square, combining artful design with easy access to Broadway and city landmarks

I knew that after experiencing A 10 Day Moroccan Adventure with Kim Larkin Adventures, I’d need some time to relax and mentally unpack my experiences and time in Morocco. As I’d made plans to meet up with Amy in Paris before I continued to Africa, it was only natural to spend time in New York on the tail end, to get used to being back in the United States.

As my short one night stay wouldn’t be worth a night at 1 Hotel Central Park - and I wanted to save 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge along with the SoHo Houses for another longer trip - I wanted to choose a hotel that was new to me, and in a lively area. But, most importantly would be close to Penn Station for my morning Amtrak ride upstate to Rochester.

After a quick search, The Time New York – JDV by Hyatt fit all of my requirements.

Check In

After my flight from Morocco to Newark, New Jersey, I was happy but tired. I’d breezed through customs with Global Entry and spent 20 minutes waiting at the baggage claim, waiting for my bag. I took Kim’s wise advice and – instead of fussing around with public transport – got an $80 direct Lyft into the city. However, that took over an hour, due to rush hour. And, my driver had to make a stop to get gas. So, needless to say, I needed check in to be as smooth as possible, as I was completely exhausted.

Thankfully, that’s exactly what happened. After being dropped off by my driver, I took the elevator to the second floor and checked in with the front desk. Here, it felt like The Time New York welcomed me with open arms. I was given an upgraded room and took a much needed bottle of water from the water shelf.

The elevator was clearly marked, around a corner.

Room and Stay

When I opened the door to my room, the only thing I felt was relief. It looked exactly like it did in the photographs – comfortable, modern and a solid place to stay for the night.

I also loved that the giant mirror also held the television. This was a nice touch that added to the aesthetics of the space.

The bathroom was to the point and felt clean.

My only complain about my room was that the bathroom fan needed to be fixed, as it was hideously loud. But, I brought this up to a staff member the next day.

Overall

Overall, my stay at The Time New York was perfect for what I needed it to be. When I checked out, I got into a fun conversation about accents with the front desk host.

Another staff member took me downstairs, and told me the lore of why there were rows of eggs in the elevator shaft. The answer? A node to one of the investors. While also showing how smooth the elevators are.

Most importantly, he saved me a few dollars by informing me of how to take the A or C train to Penn Station. As the metro down the street was the only one around with elevators, this topped my New York experience off perfectly.

Truly, The Time New York hotel is one that I would happily stay in again. Especially, because of its fantastic location to Times Square and the best of New York theaters.
