San Francisco Proper is a beautifully designed hotel in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco, California
Wanting to try a new hotel, I did a search for design forward properties in San Francisco. When my eyes noticed the San Francisco Proper Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels under Marriott, I was impressed.
Location
I’ll be honest – I absolutely loved this hotel.
However, the area that it’s in? Let’s just say the hotel is betting on the long run turn around of the Tenderloin. Because when I stayed there, I barely felt comfortable driving around to try and find the valet. Let alone I would absolutely not walk around at night. They’re trying to rebrand the area as Mid-Market. But TLDR the area surrounding the hotel is sketch AF. Valet your car and do not bother trying to find street parking. It’s not safe. Just valet.
Room + Stay
I actually really enjoyed my room. It was a pleasure. It reminded me of what I enjoy about 1 Hotels.
I had a minor issue that required maintenance attention. Which was then handled quickly and efficiently.
Plus, I loved the complimentary morning coffee and tea service for guests.
Charmaine’s Rooftop Bar & Lounge
Because I’d had a rather filling udon noodle soup and tempura from Marugame Udon as an early dinner, I didn’t feel the particular need for a heavy snack. So, after relaxing a bit after checking in, I took myself up to the rooftop bar, Charmaine’s.
I had a lovely cocktail while nibbling on fries and reading a book on my Kindle. The view of the San Francisco skyline from the rooftop was *chef’s kiss.*
Overall
Overall, I truly loved the design of the hotel and the aesthetics. It was the best thing to wake up in the morning, bask in the beauty of the hotel and then head out to Muir Woods for a morning of hiking in nature.
