De Dijk

Overall, once I got used to the particulars of Dutch customer service, my lunch at De Dijk in Volendam was a tasty meal with a nice view

Walking around Volendam during the Amsterdam: Zaanse Schans, Volendam, and Marken Day Trip by Tours & Tickets, I wanted a place for lunch that was comfortable and had a view with delicious food. After a quick internet search, I landed on De Dijk.

To start, I ordered a VD Zeebonck Blond.

And waited.

And waited some more.

It was here that I learned the outside of Amsterdam, Dutch servers do not give a shit about customer service. It is a “well get to you when you” situation. Know this, going in and you will not be disappointed or get your feelings hurt.

After I figured that out, I became more aggressive in my desires to order and eat. After all, I did not want to be left behind on the boat to Marken. But, I also felt myself getting increasingly hangry. Which is not a good look for my sanity.

Fifteen minutes after my beer, I was able to order the GRILLED CHICKEN SATAY (Prawn crackers, fries, peanut sauce, atjar).

Once it arrived, I was ecstatic. First bites were that it was exactly what I wanted. Shrimp chips are weirdly one of my favorite things. I loved dipping them in the peanut sauce and saturating the chicken in the sauce.

I disliked the customer service confusion and subsequent waiting. However, I loved the oral result. I pretty much inhaled my plate.

Overall, it was delicious. However, you must go with the mindset of being more aggressive regarding service and relaxed on expectations – and enjoy the view.
