A Ti

A Tí is an Echo Park restaurant that fuses Mexican cooking with Japanese influence, highlighted by an 800-day aged date mole served with crispy duck

Meeting Camara when I first began working and writing at Groundfloor Echo created a meaningful connection I’ve long appreciated. Wanting to move beyond text messages and properly catch up, I suggested dinner at A Tí in Echo Park.

Camara was radiant as we swapped stories of her winter travels through Sweden and France, we enjoyed the Chips + Guacamole. The guacamole was smooth, fresh, and satisfying.

The understated Oyster Mushroom Taco (cheese crust, oyster mushroom, uría, salsa aguacate, salsa negra) was absolutely incredible. Both of us immediately commented on how delicious it was, the plump mushrooms layered with flavor and perfectly balanced.

For our main course, we chose the signature Mole (crispy duck confit, 800-day old date mole, lime crema, jamaica pickled onions – served with fresh blue corn tortillas, made with Kernel of Truth masa).

The yakitori-style mole was deeply flavorful and memorable. Curious about its age, I asked our server, who explained that the sauce evolves like sourdough, with a portion of each batch folded into the next.

The tasteful design of A Tí provided a grounding backdrop for the heavy, challenging topics we navigated. As we said goodbye, I felt grateful. Sometimes, the most important work we can do is to be an active listener and a non-judgmental presence. Combined with such a delicious meal, it was a poignant reminder of the simple, vital pleasures of human connection.
