When our flight from Anchorage was delayed by three hours, it caused us to miss our connection to Los Angeles, I was faced with a choice: a midnight arrival back at LAX – or a full night’s sleep in Portland?
Realizing I hadn’t stepped foot in Portland in nearly a decade, the decision was easy: I’d spend the night in the Rose City.

Check In
Check-in at The Duniway Portland, a Hilton Hotel, was seamless. After confirming my Hilton Honors preferences, I headed up to a lovely corner room on the 19th floor.

Room and Stay
The vantage point offered a beautiful view of the city’s hills and the surrounding architecture, arguably providing a better perspective than the neighboring Hilton Portland across the street.

The hotel’s restaurant – Mayrose Restaurant – was mid. But still, decent based on proximity.

Overall
My short stay at The Duniway Portland was a fantastic welcome back to a city I’ve long enjoyed. The hotel’s vibrant interior design and rich tones provided an immediate sense of relaxation. Plus, its central location made it effortless to visit Reel M Inn Tavern for drinks and dinner.

It helped turn a frustrating travel hiccup into a delightful and unexpected urban escape.
