Snowboarding at Sugarbush Resort

Sugarbush Resort is a premier Vermont destination in the Mad River Valley, featuring ski and snowboarding trails across the distinct peaks of Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen

It’s safe to say that I planned a whole trip to Vermont in order to get a sense of value from my IKON pass. As snow had been utter trash for the 25/26 season on the West Coast, I made a mid winter decision to fly to Vermont to go snowboarding.

Originally, I thought about heading to Killington. But, Craig from Hen of the Woods - Burlington countered my idea and suggested I head to Sugarbush Resort. He rationalized that Killington was too far and wasn’t worth it. After viewing its location on a map, I truly appreciated the suggestion. So, the next day after a trip to the Burton Snowboards Global Headquarters - Company Store, I headed out to Sugarbush Resort for afternoon snowboarding.

The Drive from Burlington

The drive out was beautiful. I absolutely loved revisiting the Vermont countryside. I even loved passing Lawson’s Finest Liquids on the way up.

The signs guiding me to the brewery were easy to follow. Before I knew it, I was there.

Arriving and Parking at Sugarbush Resort

Parking at Sugarbush was refreshing: free. As I arrived for afternoon fun around 1pm, I was able to find parking close to the entrance of the resort.

I was relaxed as I changed into my snow bib, top and jacket. As I grabbed my board and walked over, I felt a little anxiety.

This was my absolute first time that I – after all of my classes and training – felt comfortable enough to head to a resort on my own (Lessons from Snowboarding: Falling, Learning, and Standing Back Up). But, I still doubted myself a little bit. However, with every step forward, my inner voice cheered my body on.  It was a “you got this” – which I feel is a baseless statement. I focused on more of “your mind and body know what to do. You’ve trained for this. Now, you fly.”

Happiness on First Time Green

After asking one of the staff members about the best lowest fear inducing green run, she suggested that I try Easy Rider or First Time Green. As First Time Green has a magic carpet rather than a ski lift, I chose to relax and enjoy the fun of First Time Green.

I. Had. So. Much. Fun.

While going up and down on First Time Green, I was able to celebrate my wins. The fact that getting my board dialed in at Burton Snowboards Headquarters, everything felt – right.

I wasn’t afraid of falling. Instead, when I fell, it was MUCH easier to unstrap, get up and reset to continue.

Finally – after listening to other people talk about their snowboarding preferences, I felt like I finally found my own.

Apres Snowboarding

After doing a few runs, it was time to call it an afternoon. But, not before I got a delicious waffle from Waffle Cabin – Sugarbush Resort.

And while in line, I learned that Lawson’s Finest Liquids’ Castlerock IPA is ONLY offered at Sugarbush Resort.

Overall

Overall, I absolutely loved my time at Sugarbush Resort. It was fun, easy to get to and allowed me to celebrate my success and achievements in joy.

Definitely worth the flight.
