After being invited to attend the Farmers Insurance Open (Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines: Watching PGA Tour Golf from Suite 16), I immediately reached out to local friends to fill my itinerary. Luckily, Sondra – a friend that I’d made over a decade prior when we both were a part of a book club – was free.
On a recommendation from my Certified Public Accountant, I suggested we meet at North Park Beer Company’s original location. Truly, I never know when my next fantastic recommendation will come from.

The taproom’s “Gaslamp 1920s” aesthetic was an immediate hit. But, I was slightly annoyed to find they don’t offer beer flights. So, I started with a glass of the Hop-Fu! – DDH West Coast IPA (7.5% ABV Pine, dank resins and a lingering citrusy finish).
It provided a perfect backdrop for the heady, soulful conversation Sondra and I are known for. We paired the drinks with a side of their excellent fries, which were the perfect salty accompaniment to the hops.

For a second choice, I ordered the DUBLIN PHENIX (4.3% ABV – Irish Style Nitro Stout). While it was lighter than I initially anticipated, it lived up to the bartender’s promise: a smooth, highly drinkable take on the classic Guinness style.

Wrapping up our time together, we ventured upstairs to the pinball room. I simply loved the expansive nature of the space.

North Park Beer Company proved to be a solid, stylish choice for catching up in one of San Diego’s best neighborhoods.
