Pure Project in North Park offers craft beers inspired by global flavors, served in a welcoming taproom with a relaxed atmosphere

After a delightful breakfast at Cafe 222 and an invigorating day of biking and beer in Coronado, the weekend seamlessly transitioned into the evening. Before dinner at The Lion’s Share, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Sonni and her friends—my future Youngblood companions—for a pre-dinner rendezvous at Pure Project in North Park.

I would have loved to join them at their earlier stops, Bivouac Ciderworks or Coin-Op Game Room, but arriving at Pure Project felt like the perfect choice.

A tasting flight was in order, and I curated a lineup that delivered.

The crisp and aromatic MYSTO WAVE (5.5% ABV​ – west coast pale ale w/ nelson, citra, & citra cryo); the hazy DIAMOND DUST​ (6.7% ABV – murky ipa w/ mosaic & cashmere​), the complex and fruity SONORA BY MORNIN’ (8.6% ABV – BA saison w/ prickly pear & Nebiolo grapes​), the deliciously rich MAPLESAURUS REX (12.5% ABV – Imperial stout w/ maple syrup & vanilla​), and the solid HARVEST OF RICHES (12.5% ABV – BBA Imperial stout w/ raspberry & vanilla).

As the hours passed by with rounds of Clock Patience Solitaire, lively conversation, and shared laughter, I couldn’t help but appreciate the easy friendships and conversations that great beer and good vibes provide.

Adding to the perfection of the afternoon were the empanadas that Sonni got for us all to share from Empanada Kitchen next door. They were flaky, flavorful, and undeniably satisfying.

My time at Pure Project was an afternoon of great beer and fun.
