Moxy Boulder

The Moxy Boulder is a vibrant and modern style hotel, with comfortable rooms with giant windows, in Boulder, Colorado.

After staying in Denver for the first half of this trip and staying in Golden for a previous trip, I knew that for the second half of this trip to Colorado, I wanted to stay in Boulder. Not only would this make me closer to Rosemary, for our day trip adventures in the Rocky Mountains. But, it would allow me to visit a new to me brand of Marriott hotels – The Moxy.

Check In

Check in was a bit of a session in letting go of expectations. Like the tommie Austin hotel in Austin, Texas and The Lodge at Healdsburg in Healdsburg, California – check in is at the bar. This is not my favorite method of check in. However, understanding the style of the hotel, I’d felt it made sense.

But this check in? Left much to be desired. It just did. The front desk person seemed too busy flirting with the guy that checked in before me to actually service me correctly.

After I emailed some minor paperwork I needed to submit for my check in, it took almost six minutes of the agent refreshing, staring at the screen and refreshing again in almost silence – including resending the email – for completion.

And after that, the agent tried to wave me away, as in her waiting, a line had formed behind me. However, that line was not my problem. Like she’s seemingly easily done with the guy before me, I asked her about breakfast, the hot tub, the bar and where the elevators are.

One thing I will always demand – equal if not better treatment. If I not, I will correct it.

Room and Stay

After a very long day of river rafting Clear Creek and enjoying time in Idaho Springs, it was refreshing to walk into my room and feel a sense of space and comfort.

The space was relatively small. But, unlike one of the smaller room at The Hoxton brand hotels, this one felt spacious.

Why? The giant window, facing Saddle Rock and the beautiful landscape beyond the houses. However, the windows are not coated and easy to look into. Instead of side curtains, there is only one overall blackout curtain that rolled from the top of the room down. In fact, I stood at my window and looked around at the other rooms to see what I could see.

Yes, I was nosy. No, I did not care. I wanted to look into other people’s lives and be amused that we were all humans in boxes.

The bed was incredibly comfortable. But, most importantly? I loved gazing out the window and watching the sun rise over the park. It was incredibly centering and beautiful.

The Moxy Bar

The Moxy’s bar felt perfectly designed for conversation—energetic yet comfortable.

On my second night, I met Ryan, the head bartender, who was leaving after launching the program to start one at Limelight Boulder. We discussed Limelight’s new Mammoth Lakes property, which excited me since I’d just bought an IKON pass for snowboarding.

I also chatted with another guest about his helicopter pilot training and business venture. The bar had the vibe of an upscale college hangout mixed with hotel sophistication.

Parking

The greatest appreciation I have for The Moxy? Free street parking. Love, love, love free street parking.

Overall

Overall, my time at The Moxy in Boulder was comfortable. My room was modern, the bed was incredibly comfortable and I overall greatly enjoyed my time and stay in Boulder.
