When Margaret first told me about the newly opened Hyatt property in Oakland—The Kissel Uptown Oakland—I was instantly intrigued. As someone who loves exploring new hotels and experiencing their unique vibes, I knew I had to plan a stay there as soon as possible. The idea of a fresh, modern Hyatt in the heart of Uptown Oakland sounded like the perfect excuse for a little getaway.

From the moment I arrived, The Kissel Uptown Oakland lived up to my expectations. The hotel had a warm, inviting atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. The design was a thoughtful blend of contemporary style and nods to Oakland’s rich history, creating a space that felt both luxurious and grounded.

One of the first things I noticed was how secure I felt valeting my car. It is a VERY bad move to park your car on the streets in Oakland for long periods of time in an unsecured area.

My room was great.

Over the years, I’ve returned to The Kissel Uptown Oakland several times, and each stay has been consistently excellent. It’s become a reliable example of what I’ve come to expect from Hyatt properties: thoughtfully updated amenities, attentive and friendly staff, and a dining experience that never disappoints. The on-site restaurant, Otto, with its creative menu and locally inspired dishes, has been a highlight of every visit.

But what really sets The Kissel apart is its location. Staying there made it so easy to venture out and enjoy the best of the Bay Area. A day trip to Napa Valley became a breeze, with the hotel serving as the perfect home base to return to after wine tasting and vineyard tours.

Each time I’ve stayed at The Kissel Uptown Oakland, it’s been a key part of the experience.

Whether I’m there for a quick escape or a longer exploration of the area, the hotel always delivers. It’s a place that feels familiar yet exciting, comfortable yet full of possibilities.
