Highland Park Wines

Highland Park Wines is a great spot to find a bottle of independent wines and spirits in Highland Park, California

I wandered into Highland Park Wines with no particular motive. I’d just finished lunch at Kitchen Mouse Cafe and had time to explore before Wild & Tea opened. So, I walked toward the Highland Park Flea Market and felt pulled towards Hippo and then, Highland Park Wines in the back.

When I walked in, I was delightfully impressed. Wines were clearly accessible and beautifully displayed. It didn’t feel like a stuffy and uptight S&M like wine store. Where every question is a lesson in how much snobbish pain you can endure from the staff.

It just felt like Highland Park Wines was staffed by knowledgable cool as shit people that just had a chill vibe.

After giving the overall vibe I wanted “What’s a good wine that you have – that’s distinct and interesting – but, that’s not too funky”. Working together, we got to thinking about orange wines.

He led me over to the area and got to searching. The first wine he pulled out was the Fongoli’s 2022 Biancofongoli  (Trebbiano Spoletino, with 15% Grechetto). After I asked him what he like about the wine, he described it so well that I ended up purchasing it.

Now, I look forward to trying it out and drinking it over a good conversation.

While fantasizing about what it would be like to be part owner in a micro winery and a small brewery, focusing on limited edition, cult following beers.
