Staying at the Ventana Campground (Glamping Underneath the Redwoods at Alila Ventana Big Sur), I knew that I wanted to do something beyond just sitting at the campsite, staring at the trees. I wanted to go out and enjoy the area. One place that I had always wanted to visit - but never had the time - was Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula.
So, after a delicious breakfast at Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn Restaurant, Onnik and I made our way up the coastline and into Monterey.

Pulling up to the entrance, paying for a single car was straightforward.

One thing worth knowing: if you dine at one of Pebble Beach’s restaurants and your meal meets a certain minimum, the entrance fee comes back to you as a discount.

Our first stop was Moss Beach, and within moments I understood exactly why Pebble Beach holds the reputation it does. It was stunning. Artemis wasted no time, bounding around with unbridled enthusiasm in that way she does when a place just agrees with her.
The drive continued to reveal one breathtaking vantage point after another, the coastline punctuated by crashing waves and sweeping views.

I made a point to stop and take a photo of the lone Cypress tree – the reason for Pebble Beach’s iconic symbol. It had the same quiet, solitary power as the famous tree at Torrey Pines. Something about a single tree holding its ground against the elements feels quietly heroic.

We wound down the visit with a stop at Pebble Beach Market for lunch and a chance to relax before heading out.

What struck me most, looking out at the sprawling oceanfront estates, wasn’t envy — it was genuine appreciation. The architecture was beautiful, and it all seemed to belong to the landscape rather than compete with it.
It was a truly lovely afternoon.
