Eastside Supper Club

Eastside Supper Club in Boyle Heights serves a rotating menu of Latin American–inspired dishes in a relaxed, community-driven setting

There are some people you meet who immediately strike you as genuinely good to know. I first crossed paths with Angel at F&Bar - Atwater Village, during a uniquely creative omakase-style dinner with Matt. Over the course of the evening, our group shared lively conversation, and I had a few brief but memorable exchanges with Angel. We connected on Instagram afterward, and since then I’ve followed his journey as F&Bar expanded to Brooklyn, New York. His culinary creations always looked incredible - and beyond his food, Angel just seemed like an all-around fascinating person.

Recently, he launched a new culinary venture with friends called Eastside Supper Club – culinary project described as “for the homies, by the homies.” Naturally, I asked if I could be a homie for the evening and snag an invite, despite not being from East LA. I imagined Angel laughed before DMing me back with a yes.

A few months later, after countless mouthwatering glimpses of his menu on Instagram, I finally found parking and made my way over to the Eastside Supper Club.

This was to be “The Homies Series”, showcasing produce from Ray & Roys Market – one of the oldest continuously run markets in Los Angeles; grilled menu by Felipe (@deathndstrawberry) the sous chef at The Hoxton Los Angeles; Salsa macha from Sabor de Macha (@sabordemacha) and craft cocktails by Angel, of course.

Even though I was a stranger to everyone but one person, I didn’t let that stop me from diving into the experience.

After greeting Angel with a warm hello, I ordered a cocktail: THE BLACKER THE BERRY (Blackberries, Black Cardamon Syrup, Citrus, & Mezcal).

Mesmerized by the grill’s sizzle, I ordered the LAMB TORTILLA SKEWER (New Zealand Lamb & Mexican Spices) and the MARINADED CHICKEN SKEWER from Chef Felipe for dinner.

Each skewer was exceptional – bursting with deep, marinated flavor. Of the two skewers, the lamb stood out as my favorite. The meat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and irresistibly good. I actually had to stop myself from ordering another, knowing I had another event to attend right after.

That night at the Eastside Supper Club, every bite and every conversation I found myself in reminded me that food – when crafted and served with genuine heart – has the power to turn strangers into homies.
