After getting an early start at my Antelope Valley listing for a visual inspection with my agent and to meet the appraiser, I made a quick stop at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster to capture the first wave of California’s state flower in bloom for the season.

With traffic in mind and knowing the timing of Cigar Night at The Bruery: Cigars by The Winston’s Club Paired with Beers by The Bruery, I planned to arrive earlier rather than later.
As I mapped out the day in advance, I reached out to a fellow coffee enthusiast I follow on Instagram – Patrick Huy (IG @philosophyofeverything) – and asked for his recommendation on a spot around Placentia where I could settle in, relax, and get some work done with a smooth cup in hand. He suggested that I stop at one of his favorite spots: Hopper & Burr.
After finding parking in the adjacent parking structure (accessible on 3rd Street, $7 for all day parking), I walked into the beautifully understated coffee shop.

Looking at the menu, it was a choice between two outstanding possibilities. However, I order the CAFE NICO (espresso, cream, orange, cinnamon).

The four-ounce afternoon pick me up delivered a smooth, well-rounded balance that carried me through contract reviews and client conversations. As I sipped and worked, it reminded me that there is always more to explore across greater Los Angeles. Even if it takes freeway time to get there.
With the right audiobook – in this case, Accidentally on Purpose by Kristen Kish – and adaptive cruise control engaged, anything is possible in Southern California.
In the evening, after 6pm, the space opens up to become Gemini – a wine tasting experience. I was happy to overhear a great conversation about places to dine in Santa Ana. Tacos Los Cholos was mentioned, along with Banditos Tacos and Fat of the Lamb.

The very best of a two for one experience.
