When I purchased my ticket for YETI’s Wild PDR Series at SingleThread Farm in Healdsburg, one of the first things on my checklist was finding a hotel for my one-night stay. I’d previously stayed at The Lodge at Healdsburg, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, so this time I was eager to try somewhere new -and, of course, to write about it.
After browsing a few options, The Madrona Hotel caught my eye. It immediately reminded me of The Maker Hotel in the Hudson Valley, where I’d stayed before. I’ve always had a soft spot for vintage homes that have been reimagined and restored into bespoke sanctuaries of style and comfort.
With just a few clicks, I was swept up in delicious anticipation. I was now ready for a stay that was sure to perfectly complement my experience at SingleThread Farm.
Check In
As I drove from San Francisco Airport to Healdsburg, I found myself hoping that my early check in request had been noted. With the dinner starting at 3 pm and my arrival slated for around 1 pm, I knew I’d have only a brief window to unwind before getting ready for dinner.
Fortunately, the moment I arrived at the property, all my worries melted away at the archway that beckoned me through.

There’s something about being greeted with a glass of wine upon check in. For me, it instantly sets the tone. That first sip seems to say, “Hello, you’ve arrived. And yes, we’re happy to take your money. But, we also want you to have a good time. So – relax, you’re in good hands now.”
It’s a simple gesture. But, it is one that transforms a routine process into a moment of genuine hospitality and comfort.

Room + Stay
After checking in at the main house, I was guided by a front desk host to my room in the Carriage House.

As I was led up the stairs to my room, I couldn’t help but pause at every turn in excitement. From the rich wood tones, to the curated artwork along the walls, to the gentle scent of something floral and familiar – every detail whispered intention.
I absolutely loved the design touches. They were thoughtful, layered, and quietly confident. It was the kind of luxury that doesn’t need to loudly announce itself. It simply exists in the comfort of beautiful restraint.
When I entered the room, my body seemed to exhale on its own.

On the table, a welcome arrangement awaited me: a small basket of fresh treats from The Madrona’s own orchard, as part of my stay package. It was such a lovely arrangement – especially the wine.
With only a short moment to rest, I took in my surroundings. The bathroom floor was heated, the room slippers conveniently placed, and the robe was soft enough to tempt me into staying in.
The bath and body products, an elegant collection from Flamingo Estate, added an extra touch of lux.

And my balcony and outdoor area was absolutely perfect. Spacious and with a beautiful lush view, I looked forward to relaxing in the lounge chair later in the evening while staring at the wonders of a star filled sky.

I absolutely loved waking up after a wonderful night out, swaddled in my incredible bed. Getting ready for my leisurely drive to Anderson Valley – with memories of the night’s previous dinner in my head – was an absolute pleasure.
Overall

When I checked out, my conversation regarding local recommendations with the Rachel, the chief concierge of the hotel was the final touch of finesse. She recommended Cyrus Restaurant for dinner during my next visit. Alongside, she recommended Troubadour Bread and Bistro. When she told me that Troubadour turns into Le Dîner (with a 7-course tasting menu with California influenced French cuisine in the evening, I was excited by the concept and made a note of it. She also recommended Quail & Condor for breads and pastry snacks.

Truly, it’s the thoughtful, intimate touches like these that set boutique hotels such as The Madrona Hotel and The Maker Hotel apart from the larger, more impersonal chains. Each moment feels curated, every interaction genuine, as a reminder that hospitality can still feel like an art form of actually caring.

For this trip, I’m especially glad I chose to indulge myself in pleasure. Truly, it’s a gift to relax, savor details, and simply enjoy the calm of being cared for and serviced. From the stunning interiors to the warmth of the staff, every element added up to a stay that felt both restorative and worth the price paid.

If I had one small desire, it would be for more time. Perhaps time to chill at the pool and read my Kindle. Or, to soak in the calm of the trees on my balcony. But truly, to let the sunlight warm my skin with a glass of wine while I write on my laptop.

But that’s the beauty of places like The Madrona hotel.
They leave me wanting more and looking for a reason to come back for another stay.
