It’s a special kind of joy when connections from past chapters evolve into lasting friendships. When I first met Brett at a University of Denver alumni event, I never imagined that years later – through the casual rhythm of Instagram messages – we’d find ourselves continuing to meet for lunch and meaningful conversation.
Brett has been an incredible source of perspective and empathy as I navigate the emotional complexities of having a widowed parent start dating again. In turn, I’ve found myself deeply moved by his openness as his family continues to rebuild after the devastating Pacific Palisades fire.
For our latest lunch, I suggested Sogno Toscano Café & Wine Bar in Brentwood.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was swept away by the Tuscan-inspired ambiance – warm, rustic, and effortlessly elegant. Conversation came easily, as it always does with Brett.
I ordered a DELIZIOSA (Prosciutto di Parma – Aged 24 months, Aged Pecorino di Montalcino, Black Truffle Sauce) and a COFFEE.
The coffee was a surprise, as both Brett and I had never had hot coffee served in wine glasses.

But – the sandwich? Every bite was exquisite. The prosciutto was rich and buttery, and each flavor complemented the next in perfect harmony. It felt rich and decadent.

Dining outdoors in the gentle California sun, surrounded by easy laughter and deep conversation, felt rejuvenating. We talked about work, his family’s rebuilding journey, and life’s unexpected turns – all while savoring incredible food.

As we said goodbye and made plans for our next lunch, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. Truly, in these modern times, I’m so grateful for friendship, for resilience, and for the beautiful way that good food and conversation can bring people together.
