After nearly 14 miles of bicycling from Culver City to Manhattan Beach, Rosemary and I were more than ready for a break and lunch. The California sun was warm, the ocean breeze just right, and all I could think about was seafood.
As we looked around the Manhattan Beach Pier, Rock’N Fish caught our eye. It felt like the obvious choice: close and quick seating. We locked our bikes, greeted the hostess, and I gratefully gave my butt a rest from my bike seat.

The patio was breezy and inviting, perfect for a midday recharge. After browsing the menu, we settled on sharing the SAN FRANCISCO SOURDOUGH (whipped butter, sea salt).

I ordered a glass of Mission Brewery’s Shipwrecked Double IPA.

This went stunningly fantastic with the BEER BATTERED FISH & CHIPS (French fries, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, lemon).

Truly, I felt a sense of happiness and contentment with the day.
There’s something rare about a person who pushes you further while lifting you up, who can keep pace and still challenge you to go farther. And on the 14-mile ride back, that friendship meant everything.
