After beer and conversation at Freak Folk Bier brewery, I had some free time before my dinner reservation at Gallus Handcrafted Pasta. So, I walked across Jack’s Alley with the snow crunching under my feet to get to Salt & Rind.

From the moment I stepped inside, I could tell this was my kind of place. The space was warm and intimate, with a cozy, neighborhood feel that instantly took the edge off the winter chill. Soft lighting, the low hum of conversation, and the inviting bar setup made it easy to settle in. I grabbed a seat at the bar, happily anticipating a quick bite before dinner.

Scanning the menu didn’t take long. Some decisions require deliberation—this wasn’t one of them. The HOT CRAB DIP (real crab, cream cheese, sweet & spicy chili sauce, wonton chips. scallion).

It arrived bubbling and fragrant, creamy with generous chunks of real crab folded throughout. The sweet heat from the chili sauce balanced beautifully with the richness of the cream cheese, and the crisp wonton chips added the perfect crunch. Every bite was indulgent. In fact, it was so good that I had to consciously slow myself down. With a full dinner still ahead, exercising restraint became the real challenge.
As a pre-dinner stop, Salt & Rind absolutely delivered. Cozy atmosphere, friendly bar seating, and a standout appetizer made it more than just a time-filler—it was a destination in its own right. If you find yourself nearby with a little time (and a little appetite), it’s well worth popping in.
