After arriving at the Hilton Vancouver Airport hotel, I was shocked by how hungry and thirsty I was. I’d just finished the bulk of my experiences in my Travel Guide: Chasing the Aurora Borealis in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Arriving in Vancouver, British Columbia after a full day of travel, my body was simply exhausted from seemingly freezing and then defrosting over the course of a few days.
As the hotel messaged me before check in with the usual pre-stay greetings, I felt inspired to ask the person responding to me for restaurant recommendations around the hotel. When Cactus Club Cafe was mentioned in their list, I was intrigued. Not only by the name – but then by the restaurants’ website and food photography.
So, after check in at the hotel, I made my way to Cactus Club Cafe.

Checking in with the host, I immediately chose to sit at the bar. It was impossible to not be captivated by the beautiful design of the restaurant. Especially, the vibrant and engaging bar.
It didn’t take me long to decide on what to order. I began with a cocktail – the NEGRONI (Beefeater London dry gin, campari, sweet vermouth, orange zest). A bitter drink to match the bitterness of the cold in The Great North.

Next up was the TUNA TEMAKI (ocean wise™ ahi, toasted sesame, cucumber, serrano pepper, nori, green onion).
This was absolutely delicious.

When the STEAK FRITES (8oz CAB® sirloin, kale salad, horseradish cream, sea salted fries), arrived before me, I was in love.

I devoured it so fast that I even shocked myself.
As I read my Kindle and vibed with the night, I was extremely thankful for the experience of my previous few days. And the delicious food I ate – especially at Cactus Club Cafe – that nourished me through it.
