As Amanda and I began mulling over and thinking about our trip to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada (Travel Guide: Chasing the Aurora Borealis in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada), I tried to imagine the best configuration of fun. I knew that I didn’t want to directly fly into Yellowknife in one shot. I wanted to spend one night in Canada to adjust - and then head in. After all, the cold in The Great North is a very severe situation.
After debating between Vancouver and Calgary, I chose Calgary. I originally wanted to head to Class Clown. So I chose a hotel that was relatively close: The Westley Calgary Downtown, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.

Check In
It was an easy 20 minute Lyft drive from the Calgary airport to the hotel. I arrived – and immediately was hit by the chilling cold once I stepped outside of the car.

While I stood in line for check in, I waited and watched as a woman spoke to the front desk. While her two young kids swung like trapeze artists on the luggage cart. I stood there, mesmerized by the lack of active parenting beyond looking back and going “attention” to the kids. They later got bored from swinging from the cart and pushing their shoes against the side wall – and went to play around the couch.
That’s when I amusingly re-realized that I’d already checked in through the Hilton app. So, I just went up to my room.

Room and Stay
The room was tastefully appointed and comfortable. Honestly, I wish that I had just one more day there.

Especially, to relax and enjoy the shower.

And I enjoyed the snowy view from my window.

Morning breakfast at Fonda Fora at The Westley Hotel was also rather lovely.

Overall
Overall, my stay at The Westley Calgary Downtown, Tapestry Collection by Hilton was a great choice, decently close to the airport that did what I needed it to do: offer me a comfortable night stay.
