It was a happenstance that found me at Yume sushi bar. But, what a lovely chance suggestion it was. It’s been a few months since I’d seen Janisse. and since we both love sushi – and I’d been recently craving it – it felt like the perfect setting for a lunch filled with conversation, creativity and great food.

I started with a HOT GREEN TEA which, felt cozy to enjoy during the first few days of autumn. To begin, Janisse and I devoured the CRISPY RICE SPICY TUNA (crispy Rice topped with spicy tuna and a slice of avocado).
For our kushiyaki selection, we chose the CHILEAN SEABASS (with yume onion). It was grilled to perfection and paired with Yume’s signature onion sauce – rich, buttery, and subtly sweet.
Next came the YELLOWTAIL CILANTRO ROLL (spicy tuna with cucumber, topped with yellowtail sashimi, yuzu pepper, serrano, chili pepper, cilantro). The delicious mix of heat and citrus played together beautifully.
The YUME ROLL (spicy tuna roll with cucumber, topped with tuna sashimi, avocado, garlic powder, mushrooms, and arugula) was layered, fresh, and full of character.
We also enjoyed the RED SNAPPER SASHIMI (red snapper sashimi topped with yuzu koshō, yuzu juice, and sea salt). This was clean, bright, and elegantly simple. I absolutely love yuzu – in all forms I can savor it.
And to top it all off, walking along Ventura Blvd with Janisse afterward was a treat in itself. It had been a while since I’ve strolled through the area, as I usually just drive past. It reminded me how refreshing it is to slow down and rediscover familiar places.
