Certain friendships serve as heartening reminders that life’s challenges are easier to face when you’re surrounded by the right people. With Sara, our connection has been a lifetime of treasured moments. But this time, our breakfast meeting held a deeper significance—there were Important Issues We Needed To Discuss.
When Sara sent me a list of potential spots, I didn’t hesitate to choose Red Maple in Toluca Lake. Nestled near Forman’s Whiskey Bar, I’d often walked past it, intrigued by the promise of flavors and experiences waiting inside.


Meeting there for breakfast seemed like the ideal chance to finally see what it was all about—and, of course, to dive into those Important Issues together.
After warm hugs and greetings, we settled at our table and placed our orders.
First to arrive was my MIMOSA (made with Prosecco and Yuzu Puree), a delightfully light and refreshing start to the meal.
But the true star of the show? The FRIED CHICKEN LEMON VELVET WAFFLE (lemon velvet Belgian waffle, fried chicken breast, house-made ube mascarpone, lemon zest, blackberry drizzle powdered sugar, served with maple butter).
It was an absolute masterpiece, delicious in every way.
But most importantly, the delicious food at Red Maple provided the perfect backdrop to our meaningful conversation.
