Barr Seco

Barr Seco offers a curated selection of natural wines alongside thoughtfully prepared small plates

It had been much too long since I’d seen Devin. The last time I’d seen him was actually the first time I’d met him, at InCycle in Pasadena. I bought a high performance bike and subsequently needed it fit to my body. Devin was able to precisely help me and offered extremely helpful suggestions on how best to customize my bike to my needs. Since then, riding my bike has been an absolute joy. I highly recommend Devin’s fitting services.

Over the years, we’d maintained conversation. But then one conversation led to another and I made reservations for the trendy Silverlake hangout, Barr Seco, for continued conversations over light bites and wine.

The space was lovely and European aesthetically pleasing.

After Devin arrived, we got to it.

To start, I tasted two wines before selecting Do Not Disturb’s “Room Service”, a crisp chilled glou-glou Pinot Noir (Central Coast, CA).

The SOURDOUGH BREAD (with lemon butter) was – small but good.

Our sever suggested that we take the bread and enjoy it with the sauce of the HAMACHI CRUDO (yuzu ponzu, brown butter, lime, Maldon sea salt flakes).  The slices of crudo were well seasoned and light.

To finish, we split an order of the BLUEFIN TUNA TOSTADA (yuzu avocado, sweet soy, sesame oil, togarachi, hari negi, shiso, served with two tostadas).

This was small and pleasant to share.

Now I will say that the concept of the wine bar is visually pleasing. However, in true European style fashion, there are a lot of tables outside.

At certain points, it felt that we were forgotten about due to the service people focusing on the outside tables more so than managing the inside. Plus, the gnats were aggravating AF.

I’ll all for vibes. But, I spent more time waving away gnats – with one getting into my water – than needed.

Overall, I would suggested Barr Secco for a pre dinner stop along Sunset Blvd. We ended up having wine and snacks at Barr Secco before heading to Bacari Silverlake for more drinks and substantial bites.

It’s a fun, extremely trendy stop. Just don’t expect the world – and you’ll satisfied.
