After a lovely drive from Big Sur, I thought it would be a wonderful time to break up the drive back to Los Angeles by stopping in Paso Robles for a relaxing time to taste some wines. So, I picked Cass Winery based on its dog friendly patio and it’s spacious location.

Settling in, Onnik and I shared the WILD GAME BOARD (elk apple sausage, apple butter, moroccan lamb sausage tzatziki, dijon pork & rabbit sausage, hot mustard, goat cheese, estate bread).

During lunch I enjoyed the wine tasting menu:
- 2025 VIOGNIER (100% Viognier – Asian pear carries through to the palate with a hint of banana custard that leads to a long finish of grapefruit)
- 2025 MARSANNE (100% Marsanne – Unique richness with flavors of honey and cashews)
- 2023 ROCKIN’ ONE RED (49% Grenache, 31% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, 5% Petite Sirah – Vivacious with brilliant fruit flavors and a balanced tannin structure preceding a long finish with flavors of fruit chutney) This was my second favorite wine.
- 2022 ROCKIN’ TED (60% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre, 6% Petite Sirah – Medium bodied. raspberry, smoked brisket, pepper). This was my favorite wine of the five.
- 2022 VINTAGE TED (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Syrah, 12% Petite Sirah – Blueberries, chocolate espresso beans, and star anise)

Our main dish for lunch, the HOFBRAU (burnt ends sausage, Wisconsin beer cheese, mozzarella, sauerkraut dijon caraway sauce) was very – unique.

I was fascinated by it – and thought it was delicious. I love places that step outside of the box. Cass Winery truly does that in their food offerings.

As a stopping point to break up the drive, Cass Winery was a delicious stop in Paso Robles wine country.
