The Daisy

The Daisy is a well-known State Street restaurant and market in Santa Barbara featuring dishes built around fresh, vibrant ingredients

Before I knew it, it had been almost 8 months since my friend Derrick had moved to New Zealand with his family. It had been absolutely a pleasure to be updated on his progress and to see how different New Zealand was from the United States of America. But, what really made me happy was when he said he was visiting Southern California again, to take care of some outstanding items. So, of course it was a pleasure to meet him for lunch in Santa Barbara.

Walking in, I was immediately taken by how bright and airy the restaurant was. I loved the contrast of the green plants and the white walls. The items in the market looked well stocked and inviting. However, we were there for two things: delicious food and conversation.

We split the FALAFEL (hummus & zhoug).

Derrick kept remarking to himself how delicious the falafel was. I loved the taste of the humus and the vibrancy of the food.

When my order of the NIMAN RANCH HAM (butter, gruyere, grain mustard, butter lettuce, on baguette) arrived, I thought it looked vibrant and beautiful. However, I would have appreciated more grain mustard, for a more distinct flavor.

As Derrick and I talked and enjoyed each other’s company, I especially appreciated The Daisy’s delicious food as the perfect backdrop during a beautiful day in Santa Barbara.
