Originally, when I planned my trip to Lake Tahoe, I imagined that I would be spending the day practicing my snowboarding skills at Palisades Tahoe. However, once in Truckee, I quickly realized that my intentions were not going to pan out. So instead, I needed to pivot.
After a quick check in with Sonni regarding her opinion, I headed to FiftyFifty Brewing Co. After all, since Sonni lives in Reno, it’s always good to ask a local.
I settled into my table with a sense of relaxation. I had no where to go and no where to be – just to exist in the moment. I browsed the menu and ordered.
First to arrived to my table was the flight of beers:
- TAHOE AMERICAN (ABV: 5% – Lager)
Our newest addition to our Tahoe lineup, a traditional American lager. Low bitterness, bready malt character, and effervescent. Notes of corn present, mild floral hop character: the perfect go-to beer for the mountain. - Capa (ABV: 5.2% California pale ale)
Slight haze, medium effervescence, medium mouthfeel, mid to high bitterness. Biscuity, slight toffee malt character. Pleasant, subtle esters from the yeast, balanced bitter backbone, flavorful and aromatic hop attributions. Stone fruit, citrus, tropical fruit, and pine. - KRAMPUS MADE ME DO IT (ABV: 10% Belgian winter quad)
Winter is finally upon us, and with the cold winds comes our old pal Krampus. This big, beautiful Belgian quad is brewed in the Trappist style with an extra kiss of spice and fermented on dark, sweet cherries. You’ll taste gingerbread, subtle dark fruit, and a little touch of sweet alcohol to warm your spirit. - 2025 ECLIPSE (ABV: 10% Barrel aged stout)
Frey Ranch Rye Eclipse
Overall, these beers were enjoyable to savor.
When the Truckee Burger (bacon, pepper jack, chipotle aioli, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) arrived, I devoured it.
I had absolutely no idea how hungry I was. Each bite was better than the last. Truly, it was a delicious burger that felt worth the price.
As it was the final days leading up to FiftyFifty Brewing Co‘s relocation to a new location, I felt a sense of curiosity toward what was to come. Honestly, my time at FiftyFifty Brewing Co was a highlight to my day.
